In (a) the metaphysis is widened and the ends of the bone are very irregular. Behind this is a transluscent zone due to a lack of calcification. During healing (b) the transluscent zone, seen in (a), calcifies heavily to produce a band of increased density. By courtesy of Dr K. Shah.
